Nothing like going on top. The Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Super Sport achieved a record 267.91mph at Volkswagen's proving grounds knocking off the SSC Ultimate Aero TT (256.14mph) for fastest production automobile.
To achieve this feet, Bugatti bumped the horsepower from 1001hp to 1200hp. Four enlarged turbochargers and bigger intercoolers were used to boost the power of the 16-cylinder engine, and the chassis was extensively redesigned to maintain safety at extreme speed – thanks to slightly raised main-spring travel, stronger stabilisers, and new shock absorbers with a complex architecture originally developed for racing cars.
30 will be produced although customer cars will be electronically limited to 257.90 mph because of tire safety concerns. The first five Super Sports to come off the production line will constitute a special series of their own, with the same configuration as the landspeed record car.

It’s about time. I’m an American myself and even I thought it was kind of embarrassing having the top speed holder be an American car, and a very unoriginal Lamborghini copycat of an American car at that. Anyway the new Veyron super sport is a beautiful car and well deserving of it’s top speed crown. In the future I would love to see Lamborghini or Ferrari step up and make an actual super car or ultra car, but that’s probably never happening. Lamborghini especially, has disappointed in performance. The Reventon was supposed to be the next biggest thing for Lamborghini, yet despite all the aesthetic changes the performance changed very little from the Murcielago.

I would like to see Ferrari and Lamborghini get in on it too. Hopefully Ferrari’s Enzo successor will make a run along with Lambo’s Murcielago successor.

Yeah, those two brands (ferrari and Lamborghini) are sitting easy, smuglike, thinking they don’t have to prove anything anymore. But I don’t think that’s going to last. They’ll soon get uncomfortable thinking they’re “supercars” have been demoted to mere eyecandy :P

Exactly. SSC would easily match the Veyron if they had a nice, smooth track to run on. The comment at the top makes me sick. You call yourself American yet say stuff like that? Did you fail to see that the Ford GT40 was the first to have that smooth design. Lambo and Ferrari are rip-off American styles, so SSC is only bringing back to America what started off in America.

Hate to break it to you, but about the only thing American on the GT 40, was the engine, and Ford badge, the rest was actually made by Lola under the management of an ex. Aston Martin employee ie: a European. Henry wanted to make a Le Manns car so looked for help among numerous English car companies because of their experience in mid engined cars. Anyway Alfa Romeo, which Enzo Ferrari once raced for, and then broke away to make his own cars, have been making sleek beautiful cars long before the Ford GT 40 or any other remotely exotic American car.

How about bringing the koeinsegg into the groove as well? Since the record breaker for Mclaren F1 can also get into a bigger machine to drag with the Bugatti. My concerns are to bring in more from the Italian and German machines.

Even though im American i think the Bugatti deserves to be the fastest. Bugatti might not be up there for long because of the Koenigsegg Agera. Once Koenigsegg finds a place long enough to take it to top speed it might be able to go faster than the Bugatti.

This is a huge battle for the top speed crown! Bugatti made this car to beat the SSC. But SSC is going to make an even faster car that goes over 287. The Mclaren f1 is also coming soon. Plus there is a transtar that may go over 300 mph! You might not even know that Koenigsegg might make a surprising move! So Bugatti has more enemies to fight than ever before in its time!
Bugatti, Ferrari, Lamborghini ,Koenigsegg, Maserati, Mercedes, Porsche, Rolls royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW,. Think about where these amazing historical brands originate. Only the europeans had the skill a very long time ago. That is why they make one of the best luxurious and fastest machines on the planet. Only they amuse and excite people all around the world with their creations.

I hear you all. What about Pagani? Many think his cars are ugly, but damn sexy at that. They are a bit underrated in the motoring scene. He made the Zonda R a year or so ago. I thought it was baffeling in Need For Speed shift, but was a bit nere racking in the corners. Insane torque, and the noise. The only noise I like better than the Porsche Carrara GT. I’d like to see Pagani climb up next to Bugatti in the power range. Has potential. I just want to see it go places.

There is Zonda limited edition, the color is blue. It is a great automotive symbol of its origin, Italy. It is worth over a million dollars, U.S. currency!

The Zonda R can only do 231, if he somehow lightened the car even further which is almost impossible, and turbocharged the SSC Ultimate Aero TT engine, then he would have a chance. His cars just don’t have the “aerodynamic” design, they LOOK like rockets, which they are, but just need something to make them fly even faster.

There was an episode of Top Gear where they commented on how unstable the Zonda felt at speed. Fun for a driver’s car but not good for a top speed record try. I would love to see them try with its successor, the C9. Its rumored to be powered by a 690HP AMG V12 and feature an all new design featuring a Carbon-Titanium Chassis. Supposed to come out late 2010, so we’ll find out soon enough.

If you try to drift with a zonda at average speed, the car will spin out easily. It has bad handling, despite the number of models pagani made with this car.
