Maserati's new road-going Grand Tourer can easily be
confused with a full fledged race car. The 0-60 of 3.7 seconds and top
speed of 205 MPH also help complete the illusion. Unlike a race car,
the MC12 drives smoothly and pleasantly and the top can easily be removed
for open-air driving. The 630 HP Ferrari N/A V12 is designed for
everyday driving with peak torque coming at 5500 RPM. The six-speed
Maserati Cambiocorsa transmission offers computerized gear selection and is
clutchless allowing the driver to switch gears with paddles behind the
steering wheel. The front of the car can be raised for speed bumps or
parking ramps to avoid damage to the underbody. A GT racing version
will also be developed.
