The Viper is Back! 2013 SRT Viper Revealed!

And it means business! It's more powerful, lighter, and faster than its predecessors (and most other cars out there on the road). Under the hood is a 640hp V10 delivering 600 lbs. of torque making it the torquiest naturally engine in the world. It's also 100 lbs. lighter giving it the best power to weight ratio of any Viper yet. More impressively, it has a better ratio than the Lamborghini Aventador and Chevrolet ZR1.

As a long time Viper fan I was originally turned off by it looks. Mainly because the front reminds me too much of the Ferrari California. While looking like a Ferrari is usually a compliment, the California of all Ferraris is not want the Viper's team should be aiming for. What I do love about it though is the way they brought back the original muscular curves of the 1st generation Viper. The previous generation was too flat and stale looking. It was if they stuck the Viper front end on a Chrysler Sebring convertible. This one is unmistakably Viper from almost all angles. The interior is also a huge improvement and a must on a car in this price range even if comfort isn't among the highest of priorities. It also looks much better in motion and sounds like any good muscle car should as can be seen in the video below (skip to the 3:50 mark to hear the trademark roar).

Lamborghini Aventador J Roadster

Well this is certainly different and unexpected. More surprising is that Lamborghini will actually make it available for sale. In order to create the purest and most radical form of open road motoring, Lamborghini has not only removed the roof but the windshield as well. To lower weight even further, air conditioning and navigation have been removed along with extensive use of carbon fiber including Lamborghini's new "Carbonskin" technology.

The unique expertise of Automobili Lamborghini in the field of carbon fiber reinforced polymers is evident not only in the hi-tech monocoque, but also in the research into further innovative solutions. Unlike traditional seats, in the Aventador J seats are made of Forged COMPOSITE®, with inserts of flexible carbon fiber fabrics: a result of an innovative Lamborghini patent.

The specialists at Lamborghini have developed an even more amazing version of carbon fiber material for the Aventador J. In its first automotive application, this carbon fiber fabric called "Carbonskin" is made of woven carbon fibers soaked with a very special epoxy resin that stabilizes the fiber structure and keeps the material soft. Like a hi-tech fabric, the carbon fiber mats fit perfectly to every shape. In the Aventador J, the complete cockpit and parts of the seats are clad in this material and shimmer in matt carbon fiber black. It's conceivable that in future there will be many potential applications for this freshly patented and extremely fine-looking material, even very high-end clothing.

The engine is the same 700hp V12 as the normal Aventador but top speed is limited to "only" 186mph which should be more than fast enough when you don't have a windshield in front of you. Acceleration numbers should be even quicker than the Aventador thanks to its reduced curb weight.

The Enzo beating Ferrari F12 Berlinetta

While I'm not yet sold on the looks, the numbers for this car are absolutely insane! A 740 horsepower V12 sits under the hood making 509 lb-ft of torque which is good for a 0-60mph of 3.1 seconds, 0-124mph of 8.5 seconds and a top speed of 211mph. Even more impressive, it completed a lap around the Fiorano circuit in 1'23" which is a second faster than the Enzo making it the fastest road car ever built by Ferrari.

It's wheelbase has been shortened compared to its predecessor,the 599 GTB Foriano, and the engine, dashboard, and seats have been lowered in the chasis. The spaceframe chasis is 154 lbs. lighter while increasing structural rigidity by 20%. The helps allow for fuel consumption to be reduced by 30% helping to show that V12 super-cars may have a future after all.
