2011 Porsche 911 Speedster

This special edition 911 will be limited to only 356 examples, a number that pays homage to the original 356 speedster. The Speedster quickly became synonymous with low-slung, open-top, two-seater Porsche sports cars that attracted free-spirited driving enthusiasts seeking the ultimate ‘wind in the hair’ experience.

2011 Porsche 911 GT2-RS

The 2008 911 GT2 was already a beast but for 2011, Porsche was able to add 90 more horses and substract 154 pounds resulting a power to weight ratio of 4.9 lbs per horsepower. It is also more efficient as fuel consumption and CO2 emission are down roughly 5%. As with the previous GT2, it is only available with a 6 speed manual channeling power to the rear wheels. I think I'm in love.

Porsche claims a time of 7:18 on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife which bests the Dodge Viper ACR, Pagani Zonda F, Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT and well just about everything. 0-60mph comes in 3.4 seconds and acceleration continues all the way up to 205mph.

Only 500 will be made at a base price of $245,000 USD.

2011 Porsche 911 Turbo S Pictures and Specifications

The top of the line S version of the 911 Turbo features a 30hp bump over the standard turbo's 500 yet it doesn't consume a drop more of gas. The performance boost is good for a 0-60mph time of 3.2 seconds and top speed of 195mph. It also comes standard with all the options available on the standard Turbo (unfortunately including the seven-speed PDK exclusively).

2010 Porsche 911 Turbo Pictures and Specifications

The 2010 version of the iconic 911 Turbo features the first entirely new engine its 35 year history. Displacement has been increased to 3.8 liters and the new engine features Direcdt Fuel Injection good for a nice even 500hp, up 20 from its predecessor. 0-60mph comes in a blazing 3.2 seconds and the speedometer doesn't stop till 194mph. And as an option, the new six-cylinder may be combined for the first time with Porsche's seven-speed PDK Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (Double-Clutch Gearbox).

You won't notice many exterior differences but that comes as no surprise since this is the 911 we're talking about here. Most noticeable are the headlights, tailights, and new wheels. U.S. Price is $132,800 for the coupe and $143,800 for the cabrio.

2010 Porsche 911 GT3 Pictures and Specifications

The 2010 version of Porsche's track-ready 911 features 20 more horsepower (435 HP) and a host of suspension upgrades over its predecessor.  Hard-core enthusiasts will be thrilled by the new Porsche Stability Management system allowing for the traction control to be completely turned off and not reactivated under even the most extreme driving conditions.

The active PASM suspension of the 911 GT3 enables Porsche's engineers to make the springs and anti-rollbars somewhat stiffer yet again, thus ensuring even more precise handling in the PASM sports mode, while retaining appropriate roll comfort suitable for everyday use in the normal PASM mode. New, even lighter wheels in racing design with central locking and UHP (ultra-high performance) tyres now even featuring tyre pressure control round off the functional and visual enhancement of the GT3.

The new GT3 offers even better grip and stability also at high speeds, specific modifications of the car's aerodynamics increasing down-forces both front and rear to such an extent that the overall pressure pushing down the car is more than twice as great as on the former model. At the same time the new Aerodynamics Package gives the GT3 a brand-new look further accentuated by the new bi-xenon headlights, LED rear light clusters, as well as modified air intakes and outlets.

The new GT3 will be available with yet another option making the car even more suitable for the race track: new and highly innovative PADM (Porsche Active Drivetrain Mount) engine bearings. These special engine mounts recognise a particularly sporting, race-like style of driving, making the normally elastic engine suspension hard and particularly resistant. This retains all the motoring comfort of the GT3 in everyday traffic, while on the race track the car is not affected by any mass forces coming from the engine, as would otherwise be the case in fast bends and on winding tracks.  Yet a further advantage is the car's improved traction when accelerating from a standstill.

All this for $112,000.

2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS Pictures and Specifications

And you thought the 911 GT3 was extreme.  The legendary RS nameplate represents the ultimate in racing ability and brings back memories of special porsche models such as the 1972 Carrera RS 2.7 and 1991 911 RS.  The engine is the same as the regular GT3 featuring 415 HP and screaming to a 8400 rpm redline but thanks to a close-ratio six-speed transmission with a single-mass flywheel and 44 lbs lower vehicle weight, the engine revs up even more freely, thus enabling the 911 GT3 to sprint from zero to 62mph in 4.2 seconds. That's one tenth of a second faster than the GT3.   And it takes just 13.3 seconds to hit to 124 mph. Top speed is 187 mph.

One characteristic of the new RS is the body, which is 1.7 inch wider at the rear (a legacy from the Carrera 4 models with which it shares its shell) by comparison with the 911 GT3. The muscular-looking rear end conceals a wider track that not only improves directional stability but also increases the potential cornering grip of the two-seater coupe.

Despite its specialized body, the RS is 44 lbs lighter than the GT3, weighing in at just 3031 lbs. This weight-saving was achieved by the use, amongst other solutions, of an adjustable carbon fiber wing, the use of a plastic rear lid and a lightweight plastic rear window. As a consequence, the corresponding engine power to curb weight ratio is over 300 bhp per tone.  The GT3 RS will go on sale in both Europe and North America.

2007 Porsche 911 GT3 Pictures and Specifications

Featuring a 415 HP naturally aspirated Boxer 6, the race-bred 911 GT3 sprints from 0-60 in 4.1 seconds and reaches 193 MPH.  Its 115.3 horsepower-per-liter is among the highest production cars.  This is achieved from a high rev-limit of 8400 rpm and changes to the variable intake system include a throttle valve enlarged from 76 to 82 millimeters, optimized cylinder heads, and a low-backpressure exhaust system.

For the first time, the 911 GT3 boasts an active suspension. The standard Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system offers two chassis in one: the basic configuration is similar to that of the previous model and is suitable for driving on alternating road surfaces. In Sport mode, the system provides even firmer damping, enabling more focused dynamics for the racetrack.  Base price is $106,000 when it goes on sale this summer.

2008 Porsche 911 GT2

The 911 GT2 features a 50 hp upgrade over the standard 997 Turbo for a total of 530hp.  The power increase is provided by two turbochargers with a larger compressor wheel and a flow-optimized turbine housing raising turbocharger pressure to an even higher level.  The GT2 is only available with a 6 speed manual gearbox and RWD to cater to the real enthusiasts and provide the best performance possible.  Porsche claims a 0-60mph of 3.6 seconds and top speed of 204mph.

The new 911 GT2's expansion intake manifold, which uses oscillating air in the intake during the cooler expansion phase, keeps the temperature of the fuel/air mixture even lower than in the 911 Turbo. This results in a significant increase in all-round efficiency, with fuel consumption down by up to 15 percent under full load despite the increase in engine output. This is a genuine innovation for turbocharged power units.

A number of elements set the new 911 GT2 apart including the new achievements in emission management and control. This is the first Porsche homologated for the road to feature a muffler and tailpipes made of titanium as standard equipment. This expensive material reduces weight by approximately 50 percent vs. a comparable component made of stainless steel.

The new 911 GT2 comes as standard with PCCB brakes featuring brake discs made of a composite carbon fiber/ceramic compound ensuring highly consistent and maximum stopping power. Also standard is the electronically controlled Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system.

The GT2 comes on 19-inch light-alloy wheels filled with 235/35 ZR19 front sport tires and 325/30 ZR19 rear sport tires. It is scheduled to make its North American debut in early 2008 at a US price of $191,700.

2007 Porsche 911 Turbo (997) Cabriolet Pictures

The 911 Turbo evolves again and as you'd expect it is the most powerful and technologically advanced Turbo we've ever seen.  Let's start out with the engine.  The next 911 Turbo features a revolutionary 480-hp, twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter boxer engine with the world’s first gasoline-engine application of variable turbine geometry (VTG)  This new technology allows for a boost in torque and a broader torque band.

The heart of the technology is adjustable guide blades, which can vary in angle to most effectively guide engine exhaust flow onto the turbocharger’s impeller wheel. The result is a system that provides the advantages of both a small and large turbocharger, improving flexibility and acceleration, particularly at low engine speeds.

As a result, Peak torque is now at 457 ft-lbs. (up 42 lbs.) and it is available from 1950-5000RPM compared to 2700-4600 for the previous model.  Another cool feature available in the Sports Chrono Package allows for a 10 second mid-rpm torque boost where psi is increased 2.9, increasing peak torque to 502 ft-lbs.  Seems like something you'd only find in a video game.

Now for the performance numbers.  Equipped with the optional 5-speed Tiptronic S transmission, 0-60mph is achieved in 3.4 seconds while the standard 6 speed gearbox takes 3.7.  Not a huge difference, but now its a little more justifiable to pick the Tiptronic although a true enthusiast driver still shouldn't have to think twice about choosing the 6 speed.  Top speed for both is at a very respectable 193 mph.

To transfer this power to the road, the new 911 Turbo features a redesigned all-wheel-drive system, with an electronically controlled multi-disc clutch replacing the previous model’s viscous clutch. Porsche Traction Management (PTM) allows variable power distribution fore and aft, and depending on conditions, the system’s electronics constantly determine optimal torque distribution to ensure ideal traction. In use, PTM provides exceptional agility on winding roads, outstanding traction in inclement conditions, and impressive active safety even at higher speeds. Though powerful, the 911 Turbo’s PTM setup is one of the lightest all-wheel-drive systems on the market.

And finally onto the brakes which are comprised of six-piston monobloc calipers up front, and four-piston monobloc calipers at the rear. Brake disc diameter at all four corners has been increased 20mm, to 350mm (13.78 in.). Optional is Porsche’s Ceramic Composite Brake system (PCCB). In addition to the exotic pad and rotor material, the PCCB option provides an increased front disc diameter (380mm /14.96 in.), absolute corrosion resistance, improved fade stability, and a 37-pound unsprung-weight savings versus the standard brake system.

The price is also up $11,900 from the previous model but it still comes in cheaper than the late model Turbo S and offers better performance.
