The Mclaren F1 once held the title of fastest production car in the world with a top speed of 240MPH until it was broken by the Koenigsegg CCR. It's 3.1 second 0-60MPH time and 11.6 second 1/4 mile should be fast enough for anyone. The Mclaren F1 GTR won leMans in 1995 and Mclaren produced a series of 5 F1 LMs to commemerate the 5 GTRs that raced that year placing 1,3,4,5, and 13. Horsepower for the LM was upped to 680 HP and was capable of doing 0-100-0 in 828.4 feet in only 11.5 seconds! Thats about an averaged size residential block.

I’m disappointed after watching this. I had high hopes for the MP4-12C but watching this just doesn’t give the same emotion as the 458 Italia or Aventador. It’s definitely an amazing machine but as Clarkson says, it’s sadly missing something. Official specs for the Mclaren MP4-12C are here! $231,400 will get you a 0-60mph run in 3.0 seconds, 0-125mph in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 205mph. For the record that’s faster and cheaper than the Ferrari 458 Italia. I sense a great rivalry between these two in the coming years.

Now to what makes it so fast. Under the hood is a 3.8 liter Twin-Turbo V8 putting 592hp and 443 lb.ft of torque which is mated to a 7-speed sequential gearbox. Thanks to a carbon-fiber MonoCell which makes up the entire cockpit, Mclaren was able to keep the curb weight down to 2,868 pounds or about 150 pounds less than the 458 Italia (though I’m betting Ferrari closes that gap with the 458 Scuderia or whatever they decide to call it).

The Mclaren F1 is my favorite car of all time so I’ve been looking forward to Mclaren’s next road going car for a long time. The F1 was intended to be the best performing road car in the world and succeed it did setting the top speed record at 240mph. The MP4-12C is intended to bring that “ultra-car” performance into the “super-car” range. So far it looks like they’ve succeeded.

Rumor: Mclaren F1 successor on the way sooner than expected?

According to Autocar, Mclaren is planning on completing its Mclaren F1 successor in 2012, 2 years earlier than originally announced.

Mclaren insiders described it as a “revolutionary” hypercar and one which will be instantly recognisable as such." I wouldn't expect anything different.

Bugatti better enjoy its new reign as top speed king because I have a feeling it won't last past 2012.
