2012 Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 Officially Revealed

After multiple leaked images and camouflage shots, we can finally see the Aventador in all its glory and from every angle. After initially being disappointed that it looked too similar to the Reventon, I have to say I'm very impressed overall and I think they got the look just right, especially the interior.

What was never up for debate was the performance with the all new 6.5 liter V12 putting out 690hp @8250rpm and 509 lb-ft. of torque @5500rpm. 0-62mph comes at a blazing 2.9 seconds and top speed is 217mph. Besides the power increase, these numbers are a result of advanced lightweight technology, most noticeably the full monocoque cell. The entire occupant cell, with tub and roof, is one single physical component. This ensures extreme rigidity and thus outstanding driving precision, as well as an extremely high level of passive safety for the driver and his passenger. The engine is also 40 lbs. lighter than the Murcielagos. All in all, the Aventador comes in at 200 pounds less than the Murcielago at 3,472 lbs.

"This kind of extreme power must be delivered reliably to the road. The driver of the Aventador LP 700-4 can depend fully on its permanent all-wheel drive - indicated by the 4 in the model designation. In the driveline, an electronically controlled Haldex coupling distributes the forces between front and rear. In a matter of milliseconds, this coupling adapts the force distribution to match the dynamic situation. A self-blocking rear differential together with a front differential electronically controlled by ESP make for even more dynamic handling. The Drive Select Mode System enables the driver to choose vehicle characteristics (engine, transmission, differential, steering and dynamic control) from three settings - Strada (road), Sport and Corsa (track) - to suit individual preferences."

Base price is expected to be around $370,000 when it goes on sale in October 2011.

2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera

Less weight, even more power. I like it. The successor to the LP 560-4 sheds 154 lbs. and gains 10hp for a grand total of 570hp. The result is a 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds and top speed of 202mph. Extensive use of carbon fiber on both the outside and inside make the weight loss possible.

The Gallardo LP560-4 features mores aggressive styling and more powerwhen compared to the standard Gallardo. Most apparent in the front is new headlights, a third air inlet in the middle as well as an additional inlet on the side right in front of the wheels. The back is where the makeover is most noticeable with wider, shorter tail lights, quad exhaust, and a completely redesigned rear bumper. Last but certainly not least is the stunning new wheels that really show off the LP560-4's gigantic breaks.

The Gallardo Superleggera is the no compromises all out racing version of the Gallardo. With an additional 10 horses and weight reduction of 154 lbs., the Gallardo is even faster and more fun to drive. Lamborghini engineers decreased the Lamborghini Gallardo’s already low weight by using advanced materials and technologies.

The engine hood is made of visible carbon fiber and transparent polycarbonate, a type of material that guarantees lightness and also shows off the magnificent V10. The rear diffuser and underbody covering, the rearview mirrors, door panels and the central tunnel’s covering are also made of carbon fiber. Further reductions in weight were achieved by replacing certain glass surfaces with transparent polycarbonate.

For the interior, monocoque carbon fiber sports seats covered in Alcantara were chosen to ensure restraint of the driver and passenger during the intense lateral accelerations that the Gallardo Superleggera is capable of achieving around curves.

The Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera’s engine is the latest version of Lamborghini’s well-known 4,961 ccm V10. The increase in power (to 530 bhp) was made possible by the engine’s improved volumetric efficiency through reduced intake load losses and by exhaust backpressures, together with optimized electronic control.

The open top version of the Gallardo helps cancel out the added weight by featuring a power boost up to 520 HP. Good for a 0-62MPH of 4.3 seconds and 195MPH top speed.

The roof raising/lowering system of the Gallardo Spyder is based on an electronic control system with electrohydraulic actuators. The roof raising/lowering mechanism is extremely simple to operate by way of two push-buttons on the centre of the dashboard. And the whole operation takes just over 20 seconds.

The rear screen moves automatically while the roof is being opened or closed. This automatically-controlled movement always returns the screen to the raised position. The driver can also choose to have the screen in the lowered position (also with the roof raised) by pressing the appropriate button on the dashboard. There is also a "service function" that positions the roof so as to allow access to the engine.

With some help from Audi, Lamborghini unveiled its Ferrari 360 killing Gallardo. Powered by a 493 HP V10, the Gallardo jets to 60 in less than 4 seconds and claims a 192 MPH top speed. The Gallardo is almost as fast as its big brother but at a significantly lower price of $160,000. 1300 are going to made a year.

Update: Lamborghini to produce 20 examples of the Sesto Elemento!

The Sesto Elemento has been approved for a limited production run of 20 units with each expecting to fetch a price of around $2.8 million dollars. Just don't plan on driving your $2.8 million Lambo on the street because the Sesto Elemento is designed for the track only. Weighing in at only 2200 lbs., it is will run 0-60mph in 2.5 seconds and have a top speed over 186mph.

I'm glad to see them put it into production even if at such a low volume. I look forward to seeing a lot of the technology carried over into the successors of the Gallardo/Murcielago at a more "reasonable" price tag
