If I had to give the perfect example of an exotic car, I would pick the Diablo. It's unique style and impressive power have influenced many car manufacturers and will continue to for years to come. After 5 years of development and hundreds of thousands of test miles, the Diablo was unveiled to the public in 1990. The name Diablo came from a legendary bull owned by the Duke of Veragua.
The original Diablo was 2WD and had 492 HP which was enough to reach 202 MPH and run the 1/4 mile in 13.3 seconds. In 1993, the Diablo VT (Vicious Traction) was introduced which included a updated 2WD system that moved power to the front wheels when the rear ones began slipping. In 1995, the Diablo SV was introduced which saw a power upgrade to 510 HP. Lamborghini went back to the 2WD only setup. Also in 1995, the VT roadster was finally completed which allowed for top down cruising. In 1999, both the SV and VT versions received the glass enclosed headlights as opposed to the popup headlights used in the previous models. Powered was also boosted to 530 HP allowing for a top speed of 210 MPH and 0-60 under 4 seconds.
In 2000, the Diablo VT 6.0 was introduced which included a handful of upgrades including a new 6.0 liter engine capable of 550 Horsepower and extensive exterior modifications. 4WD was used for the 6.0 although you could request 2WD for the same price. Top speed stayed at 210 MPH although you could request special gearing capable of 225 MPH. Also available in 2000, the Diablo GTR featured a 590 HP engine producing a 0-60 around 3.5 seconds and top speed of 211 MPH. In 2001, the 6.0 SE ( Special Edition) would become the last Diablo produced. A limited number of 40 were produced which were available in two colors, Oro Elios(gold metallic and Marrone Eklipsis(maroon-brown metallic). After an impressive run of 11 years which showed us everything an exotic car should be, production was halted in 2002 to start producing the next piece of Lamborghini History, the Murcielago.
