2011 Gumpert Apollo

The Apollo is considered by some to be one of the ugliest supercars ever created but the Apollo was never about beauty, it was about achieving the highest level of performance possible. Its aerodynamic styling and low weight of 2645 lbs. show it means business.

The standard Apollo comes with an Audi sourced 4.2 liter twin-turbo V8 putting out 650 hp. It's that not enough, the Apollo S bumps the horsepower up to 750. The Apollo S hits 60mph in a standstill in 3 seconds flat, 120mph in 8.8 seconds and continues all the way up to 224mph.

The Apollo is the definition of race car for the street. The chassis is identical to the race version and the interior could in no way be confused with a luxury car. That being said, it still features air conditioning, a dvd player, and customers can design the interior to fit their preferences

2012 Gumpert Tornante by Touring

Gumpert's previous effort, the Apollo, was acclaimed for his performance but always ragged on for its looks. Gumpert set out to improve on that with the Tornante and I'm not sure they really succeeded. Sure it looks smoother and more refined but I would say calling it pretty is a stretch. In fact, I prefer the Apollo's raw unapologetically agressive look if just because I'm not really sure what the Tornante is trying to be.

Luckily, the Tornante will inherit the same great 700hp 4.2 liter twin-turbo charged V8 from the Apollo with an even more powerful version rumored for future versions. As they say, it's what's on the inside that counts.

The Gumpert Apollo sets a new record on the Top Gear track even though Hammond rips on it for being one of the the ugliest cars ever created. I actually kind of like it looks from the front though I agree the rear is absolutely hideous.
