Audi shaved off 220 lbs. for its GT version of the R8. While that alone would greatly increase performance, they also decided to add more power too by changing engine electronics to bump peak horsepower to 560hp (from 525hp). More power, less weight. It never gets old. The result is a 0-62mph sprint of 3.6 seconds and top speed of 198.84mph.
Audi shaved weight every it could. Thinner windshield glass and the extensive use of Carbon Fiber made for a majority of the savings. Audi was even able to shave some weight from the power brake system, battery, air intake module, exhaust pipes, interior carpeting, and engine compartment insulation. The final weight came in at 3,362.05 lbs.
Only 333 will be produced at a price of $256,000.
