Official specs for the Mclaren MP4-12C are here! $231,400 will get you a 0-60mph run in 3.0 seconds, 0-125mph in 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 205mph. For the record that’s faster and cheaper than the Ferrari 458 Italia. I sense a great rivalry between these two in the coming years.

Now to what makes it so fast. Under the hood is a 3.8 liter Twin-Turbo V8 putting 592hp and 443 lb.ft of torque which is mated to a 7-speed sequential gearbox. Thanks to a carbon-fiber MonoCell which makes up the entire cockpit, Mclaren was able to keep the curb weight down to 2,868 pounds or about 150 pounds less than the 458 Italia (though I’m betting Ferrari closes that gap with the 458 Scuderia or whatever they decide to call it).

The Mclaren F1 is my favorite car of all time so I’ve been looking forward to Mclaren’s next road going car for a long time. The F1 was intended to be the best performing road car in the world and succeed it did setting the top speed record at 240mph. The MP4-12C is intended to bring that “ultra-car” performance into the “super-car” range. So far it looks like they’ve succeeded.
