2015 Acura NSX Concept – Please Build This One!

It's hard to get excited about an NSX concept these days since there's been so damn many of them since Acura ended production of the original NSX back in 2005. But this one is different. All those concepts seem to have paid off as the latest iteration is one sexy machine.

As with the original NSX, the latest concept focuses on lightweight handling fun. Like the original model, the NSX features a mid-mounted naturally aspirated V6 engine but with a twist; Acura's engineers added the firm's Sport Hybrid SH-AWD (Super Handling All Wheel Drive) hybrid system that utilizes three electric motors.

The next VTEC V6 engine comes with direct-injection and is linked to a dual clutch transmission with built-in electric motor. In addition, two-motor electric-drive unit can provide torque to the front wheels during cornering to improve handling.

  1. I have heard about this in many places today, like Top Gear, North American Auto Show, even Gran Turismo and I am very happy. As great fan of japanese sports cars, I am glad that Honda is bringing back the NSX, their supercar. This car was no doubt an icon for the Japanese automotive industry. This car was the pride of the country’s best sports cars at the time along with the Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline GT-R, Mazda RX-7, and the Mitsubishi 3000GT. I am glad that the successor is planned for production now at around late 2014. Yes, they have been through many concepts, like the HSC, DN-X, also HSV-GTS car used in the SuperGT was actually the race version of the aborted NSX 5 years ago. But here is the real concept. I also have a few details about the car, the price tag will obviously be greater than 100k and the production version may arrive sometime in late 2014. Yes, I also want them to build this awesome car, and they will.

  3. Ummm Nevin, you do realize Acura is an American company right? Yeah they are American by name only with all their cars actually being made by Honda but still, how is an American wanna-be Japanese company build an icon of Japan?

    • I obviously know that. However it was an icon when the original first car came out. Even though they had their luxury division rebranded as a different name here in america, thats all, like you said. But since the brand is made by its parent company, its still truly japanese. Despite the rebranded name being first introduced here in america, I wouldn’t consider it an american brand. For example, the Infiniti M here is branded as the Nissan Fuga in Japan. Only difference is the name, but both are Nissan. Also, one of the main reasons that the japanese companies rebranded their luxury divisions is that they wanted a brand focusing on luxury cars only, especially in America, where lots of cars from different places are sold here, so its not really ‘american wannabe’. So it defintiely makes sense that the car was an icon of Japan, and I can’t wait for its successor to become another legend.

Hope you can understand this, thanks btw did you see the super bowl commercial for this car? It was sweet.

  4. Your right about that. I’d still much rather trust an Acura/Honda that I know is made in Japan over one made in the U.S, because lately foreign brands with the greatest reputations abroad have had uncharacteristic problems in the models made in the U.S. Toyota and Lexus being a good example with the fact being that nearly all of the recalled models with the sticking accelerators, and the faulty parts themselves were made in American factories, with a few also made in Europe. Coincedence? I think not.

    • Yeah that is true. As a matter of fact, the Toyota recall affected one of the cars my family has, the RAV4, which was one of the major cars involved in the recall. Toyota went through so much trouble to remain as one of the top automakers. Also, Hyundai(and Kia) are really getting at them.
